Power Generation/Power Plant

Water Quality Decides Plant Economics

Fuel and generation get the attention.

Water is what quietly determines whether that fuel turns into reliable output — or into scale, corrosion, unplanned outages and compliance risk.

01

Scale & corrosion

A thin layer of scale on a boiler tube can raise fuel consumption significantly and shorten equipment life long before it fails outright.

02

Variable intake water

Brackish, seawater and reused sources are increasingly common across ASEAN sites. Pretreatment has to work harder without inflating chemical and energy cost.

03

Coal quality & combustion

Lower-rank, higher-moisture coal is cheaper to buy and harder to burn cleanly — unless combustion is actively monitored and tuned.

04

Tightening compliance

Requirements keep moving. FGD wastewater and ash pond effluent both need treatment before they qualify as compliant.

05

Unplanned downtime

A single unplanned boiler or turbine outage can cost far more than years of disciplined water treatment chemistry.

One loop, six pressure points

Every power plant runs the same closed loop — intake, boiler, combustion, turbine, condensate, and discharge.

Kurita has a technology or diagnostic service at each point. Select a stage to see what we do there.

Stage 01 — Intake & Pretreatment

Raw water intake & pretreatment

Clarification, softening, and RO/demineralization set the baseline for everything downstream. Getting this stage right reduces the chemical and energy burden on the entire cycle.

  • RO & demineralization membrane care
  • Antiscalant programs for variable-quality intake
  • Clarifier & softener optimization
Stage 02 — Boiler / Feedwater

Boiler feedwater treatment

The highest-value stage to protect. CETAMINE® and DReeM Polymer work together to prevent scale and corrosion across the boiler and steam cycle.

  • CETAMINE® film-forming amine treatment
  • DReeM Polymer scale & corrosion inhibition
  • Iron & copper transport control
Stage 03 — Combustion / Flue Gas

Combustion & flue gas diagnostics

Coal quality varies. GL Series and Flue Gas Analyzer diagnostics keep combustion efficient and emissions in check, even with lower-rank coal blends.

  • GL Series coal modification technology
  • Flue Gas Analyzer (FGA) diagnostic service
  • Combustion tuning recommendations
Stage 04 — Turbine / Cooling Water

Cooling water & condenser protection

Once-through and recirculating cooling systems — including seawater-cooled plants — need active control of scale, corrosion and biofouling to protect heat transfer efficiency.

  • Scale & corrosion inhibitor programs
  • Biofouling & biofilm control
  • Seawater cooling system treatment
Stage 05 — Condensate Polishing

Condensate polishing support

The last checkpoint before water re-enters the boiler. Resin management and monitoring keep contaminants from recirculating through the cycle.

  • Ion exchange resin performance management
  • Condensate quality monitoring
  • Polisher regeneration optimization
Stage 06 — Wastewater / Compliance

FGD wastewater & ash pond effluent

Discharge water has to meet PROPER, AMDAL and KLHK limits before it leaves the site. We design treatment trains — up to zero liquid discharge — for these compliance-critical streams.

  • FGD wastewater treatment
  • Ash pond effluent treatment
  • Zero liquid discharge (ZLD) system design

Built for every generation source in the region

The chemistry and diagnostics change with the fuel and the site. The commitment to fuel efficiency, asset life and compliance stays the same.
